Welcome!
I am very excited to welcome you all to Team GOLD English Language Arts. In our first week we will be going over my classroom expectations, getting to know one another, and diving into our first big question "why does reading matter?" We first questioned "Why does reading matter?" and had students practice the inquiry process for challenge based learning. On Thursday, we read letters published in Jim Burke's book "I Hear America Reading" and analyzed those different letters. Lastly, to end out our first week, we did a graded letter writing assignment, where the students wrote to me explaining their past experiences with writing, as well as their hopes for this year and what reading means to them. The only homework students may have is if they did not finish their letters in class. We had a great first week! If your student did not already let you know, they do need a novel to read before lunch in "SSR" or "Silent Sustained Reading." It is my hope that each week you can read from a different student about what they are reading on the "Books We Are Reading" tab of this site (which is why it's still blank now). I will also try to post examples of weekly work here, so stay tuned each week to see if you're featured!
